Acoustical Breadth

MC Fitness & Health Center is based on two main functions, medical procedures and fitness accommodations. The facility is divided in a way that provides patients with multiple services. For example, one can be treated or even hospitalized in case of an emergency. In addition, a 50,000 SF fitness center with a medically integrated approach to help achieve optimal health and fitness. Being able to provide both services means that there will patients being treated while other training. Therefore, acoustical design is an important factor within the building. Patients have to be ensured that they will be provided a comfortably acoustical space.

Due to the importance of the acoustical design in MC Fitness & Health Center, an acoustical analysis is going to be performed. The focus will be on the Fitness center due to its open ceiling design. The analysis will be performed to examine the effects of the fitness center o k the treatment/medical rooms. Pottorff AIM will be used to conduct the analysis. Furthermore, the STC levels of floor-ceiling assemblies and partitions will studied in order to find alternatives if issues found. Emphasizing on the patient’s comfort should is the goal.

Lighting Breadth

One of the strengths of the MC Fitness & Health Center is its exposure to the exterior. The multiple types of large windows and curtain wall system allow the patients to enjoy a phenomenal view of the landscape. This is very essential to the patients that are being treated and also using the fitness center. With that comes a disadvantage, solar heat gains. Therefore an intensive day light analysis is going to be conducted to understand the effect of the exterior windows on the interior in terms of heat gains. This study will allow making design decisions regarding the types, and materials of the windows. Grasshopper will be used as a tool to help conduct the day light analysis. Allowing for such a change in design can help with drastic energy savings and that is due to the large area of glass in the building.
